Saving for retirement when not necessarily staying in the US

Hi all,
I’m an international Ph.D student, 29 y/o on an F-1 visa, and have at least 3 more years in the US. I have a monthly stipend from my institute. I don’t know if after my Ph.D I’ll stay here or not - and as such I’m not sure it makes sense to open a retirement account in the US. My old retirement account in my home country does not allow contributions without having a job in my home country.
I’m thinking of how to still save for retirement: does it make sense to just invest the money in a brokerage quite conservatively? Just use a HYSA? Mind you I already have an emergency fund.
Would love any suggestions and ideas! Thanks!
