Summary
Food waste contributes to nearly 8% to 10% of all greenhouse gas emissions. In Canada, approximately 60% of food produced is lost or wasted per year, costing an estimated $49.5 billion. The average household is throwing away nearly three kilograms of food that could have been eaten each week.
At the end of the year, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services will release a report on the state of the nation's food supply. The report will include information on how to reduce food waste. The U.N. report will also include information about how to prevent food waste in the first place.
